Remember when????
My friend Julie sent me this in email and it made me nostaligic and it was a good reminder that even though time may seem like it is going by soooooo slow right now during this wait....many of these memories seem just like yesterday.
A picture of me in the 70's...it was a transtition year between the Dorthy Hamill haircut and the Farrah Fawcett feathered look, complete with a very fashionable cowl neck and I was probably wearing gauchos.
You owned "Klick-Klacks" and smacked yourself in the face more than once !
Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket. When you walked, the "wings" flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna "take off"
It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags! (So true!!!!)
Enjoy!!!
This is for all you gals in your 30's and 40's :)
You know you grew up in the 70's when:
You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.
You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it. (My favorite gift from Santa ever!!!!)
You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.
You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)
You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island. (Usually while I was babysitting...which made me totally want the parents to come home)
You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie", not to mention the "Dorothy Hamill". People sometimes thought you were a boy. (Started to grow mine out when I was called a boy one too many times)
You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.
You owned a "Slip-n-Slide", on which you injured yourself on a sprinkler head more than once.
You owned "Klick-Klacks" and smacked yourself in the face more than once !
Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession. (My mom even made me a Holly Hobbie birthday cake)
You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.
You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.
You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits, or the sunshine family. (My dolls of choice were Malibu Barbie and growing up Skipper)
You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once.
You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. (Oh yeah!)
You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle).
You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.
You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Oleson!
You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink! (No kissing at the rink but I sooooooo wanted to be asked to skate during the Snowball session)
PONG! ("video tennis" ) was the most remarkable futuristic game you've ever heard of !
Your hairstyle was described as having "wings" or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket. When you walked, the "wings" flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna "take off"
You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie. (More my sister and her friends)
You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic. With the thermos inside some were glass inside and broke the first time you dropped them.(I think I was too old for a Muppets lunch box but I did have a Holly Hobbie one!)
You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend. YOU had Star Wars action figures, too! (No Star Wars action figures but the neighbor boys and girls were known to play Starsky and Hutch, Charlie's Angels and Duke's of Hazard)
It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags! (So true!!!!)
You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: "Who will I marry. Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, David Cassidy, or Donny Osmond?" (I also had a Andy Gibb poster on my wall)
You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album.
You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.
You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!
You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker. (I so did this!!!!)
You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat.
You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books. (Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.)
You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics. (?? its not??)
You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbow designs.
You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.
You drowned yourself in Love's Baby Soft - which was the first "real" perfume you ever owned.
You glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip-gloss till it almost dripped off. (For me it was grape and I would pile it on at the Skate King right before the Snowball)
Thanks Jules for cheering me up!!! Hope everyone else has a smile on their face now too!

Oh wow! That was a walk down memory lane.
I had Andy Gibb on my wall too ;0)
Now I feel REALLY old. I still have my Marie Osmond doll! I remember going to a taping of their show. Thanks for all the memories!
What great memories! I LOVED the Klackers. I would play with them for hours.
I had Andy Gibb on my wall too! My brothers and I would play Simon trying to beat each other!
Thanks for the memories!!
I love this! I just sat here grinning from ear to ear remembering all of this great stuff.
My 3rd grade pic is in a plaid prairie shirt and I was in love with Shaun Cassidy!!!
Oh, boy, you nailed this one! Thanks for the memories and the laughs. Funny, just last week I was telling Emily about Love's Baby Soft. Hadn't thought of that in years, and then there it is the next week on your blog!
Pam
OMW....I am dying! lol I loved all that stuff....I had forgotten about it....thanks for the best smile of the day!
OMG! That is the best. I have goose bumps because EVERYTHING was exactly as I remember it. I could even smell the Love's baby soft as I was reading about it. What a complete time warp. Thanks for cheering me up after a really helacious day at work. I will be thinking about these things all night with a smile. The funny thing is, I still have the Holly Hobbie wallpaper on my wall at our lake cabin. My room is upstairs and it's the "kids room" so we can't bear to change it.. they don't seem to mind but when my friends see it for the first time they always crack up!
What a great trip you just took me on. I loved my bike and hte love Boat! I forgot just how cute he was!
OMG - some of that made me LOL!
I'm smiling now - thanks :-)
What a great trip down memory lane this morning. I'm still smiling from ear to ear. I love your photo as well. I'd hate to post my "dorothy hamill".. LOL I think I liked my "Farrah Facett" hairdo much better. LOL.
That was GREAT!!
I was partial to Doc...what was I thinking!
Keep smilin!
I owned my very own pair of klick-klackers that were royal blue. I too had the 'Dorothy Hamill' haircut, and the goucho's, and the...
In fact I think I probably could do down the list of what I owned, but then of course that would give away my age right? hahahahaha
Thanks for the GREAT distraction from the pit I think a lot of us are in. :-)
That really made me laugh! :) I had fogotten about 1/2 that stuff ... o.k...maybe blocked it out! lol
Oh my goodness, did that bring back memories!! All that stuff is so true (yes, I'll admit, Gopher was cute...blech). Holly Hobbie lunch box, Tiger Beat (Bay City Rollers were my fav band), not Donny and Marie but I had Jacklyn Smith Charlie's Angels doll! Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
Hey Elise...I found your blog through my mom's (Neevr too Many) and just love it!
Cute post too!
OMG, it's all flodding back.....ahhhhh!
This is the BEST memory lane ever!! I could go on and on, but I'll just say yes to: Shaun Cassidy, Solid Gold, wings, roller skates, Hollie Hobby, DISCO lunchbox for me, Andy Gibb, Gopher (LOL), and yes, I sported the Dorothy Hammil haircut for several years!!
Oh boy, that certainly made me smile as I have to admit that you just really made me feel old. It's a nice reminder that time does fly by.
Yes! Yes! Yes! This was sooooo much fun! Thanks for all the work on memory lane! ; )
I still have Donnie and Marie Osmond...A plays with them and my other old barbies at my parents house. She usually puts Donnie in this faux fur coat...and then their dog Max always steals him...it is too funny
OHHHHH so true!
You brought back alot of memories, I remember ALL of them!
I did a similar post today!
OMG!!! I totally relate. I drowned myself in Love's Baby Soft and fantasized that the Osmonds realized I was their long lost sister.
I was born in 1973, so some of these things are familiar to me. I remember my brother being INFATUATED with the Dukes of Hazzard. Quality television, that.ds
That was fun... though, living in Australia - I didn't know the Osmond Dolls, that perfume but I do recall 'Tiger Beat'... oh how Leif Garrett was my man... roll on lip gloss... that tape recorder... Grease - of course... with Olivia Newton John... the girl from home in a big Hollywood movie. Thanks for memory lane... take care... Felicity

NO WAY!! I had all of those, except I had a bonnie bell lip smacker around my neck too. This is so funny and brings back some great memories. I was definitely going to marry Leif Garrett.
Oh my gosh...I totally forgot about klick klacks but i do remember now being smacked in the face with them. How funny! What a great list and trip down memory lane.
